The workshop will cover several aspects that will enable people to bridge the gap between amateur Astronomer and a Professional Astronomer. Amateurs can hope to learn methods by which they can contribute to the science of Astronomy and effectively use their interests well.

The Bangalore Astronomical Society will be conducting a one day workshop on Careers in Planetary Sciences, on the 19th of September 2010 at VET auditorium,VET school,J.P. Nagar -II Phase Bangalore. The Workshop will be delivered by Dr. Vishnu Reddy.

 

About the speaker, Dr. Vishnu Reddy:

Vishnu is probably one of India’s most successful  astronomers.

He has been credited with the discovery of 22 main belt asteroids, two binary near-Earth asteroids, six main-belt binary asteroids, and a supernova by the International Astronomical Union. One of his asteroid discoveries has been named 78118 Bharat in honor of his motherland. Reddy is currently an Assistant Research Professor in the Department of Space Studies at the University of North Dakota. His research involves compositional study of near-Earth asteroids using near-infrared spectroscopy. He is a visiting astronomer at the NASA Infrared Telescope Facility at Mauna Kea, Hawaii and visiting scientist at the prestigious Max-Planck Institute for Solar System Research, Germany, He is a participating investigator on numerous international astronomy research projects and regularly uses observatories around the world.

The Workshop aims at providing an insight into planetary sciences. It is a must attend for all those who are fascinated about planetary Sciences and for those wish to pursue Astronomy as a career. If you feel you want to contribute to Astronomy even as an amateur, this workshop is definitely one to attend.

What can I learn at this workshop?

You can expect to learn a lot of things that will help you in converting your interests in Astronomy to something more meaningful. You can learn to start making scientific contributions as an amateur and learn what it takes to of become a professional astronomer.

What are the charges?

This workshop is FREE for all to attend , provided he/she has registered for it ,(please scroll to the bottom for registration)

Is there priority allotment amongst attendees?

BAS will give prioritize it's members above non-members. Seats are otherwise allotted on a first-come first-serve basis. For BAS memberships, please see our memberships section.

Will there be lunch and tea?

BAS will not be arranging for Lunch on the day of the workshop. We expect you to arrange this on your own.
