Bangalore Astronomical Society participates and conducts a national level workshop for engineering students at Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore. Tamil Nadu. as part of their SEDS-India program.


SEDS-India is conducting the SEDS India National Conference (SINC '09) on 28th February and 1st March. With the year 2009 being International Year of Astronomy

Presentations on Telescopes and Astrophotography.

Followed by Observations sessions.


Place : Vellore Institute of Technology.

Date : 28th February and 1st March.

History on SEDS:


SEDS (Students for Exploration and Development of Space) is a student community dedicated to promoting Space Science amongst students. SEDS was founded by MIT, Harvard University and Yale University in 1980. The permanent headquarters of SEDS lies at MIT, USA.

SEDS-India is one of three largest nation member of SEDS International. It promotes all fields of space science, whether it be Astronomy, Astrophysics, Astrobiology, Space Technology or Space Art.


Amongst the biggest of SEDS activities in recent past was SEDS International Conference – 07, conducted by SEDS-India in VIT in September 2007. It was a huge success in which more than 50 international delegates and 350 national delegates participated.

The conference was held under the aegis of American Astronomical Society (AAS) and sponsored by Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Tamil Nadu Science and Technology Center (TNSTC), the International Space University (ISU) besides others. The conference met with wonderful success and acclaim.
